Tembo contested the 2021 presidential election and ran again in the campaigns around this month’s general election, which returned President Hakainde Hichilema to office. PeP never converted that effort into a parliamentary seat or council majority.

The party’s more durable output was on paper. Under Zambian law a registered party does not lapse simply because its leader steps away, but parties built around a single founder rarely survive the founder’s exit intact.
