Results update | 13 August 2026
The Electoral Commission of Zambia has not yet published verified candidate totals or declared winners from the 2026 general elections. Vote counting is underway, but figures circulating on social media should not be treated as official results unless they can be traced to an ECZ announcement or a signed results form.
What is verified so far
- Voting closed on 13 August and counting began at polling stations.
- The official ECZ results page has not yet added verified 2026 candidate totals.
- ECZ’s revised roadmap schedules receipt and verification of results from 15 to 17 August, with the declaration of election results planned for 17 August.
The ECZ General Election Results page currently lists earlier elections rather than verified 2026 results. The Commission’s revised election roadmap provides the official timetable for verification, declaration and publication.
How results become official
Polling-station results are counted and announced locally. Returning officers then total the results received from all polling stations in a constituency. They declare winners for National Assembly, mayoral or council-chairperson and councillor elections after completing the constituency process.
Presidential results follow a separate route. Constituency figures are transmitted to the National Results Centre, where ECZ announces them as they are received. The ECZ chairperson declares the final presidential result after the national verification process.
The Commission explains this process on its official elections and results-management page. The Associated Press has also reported that ECZ expects national results on Monday.
Treat circulating figures with caution
Images of polling-station forms may show genuine local counts, but they are not national totals. Party tallies, unofficial dashboards and figures without an identifiable returning officer or ECZ source should be labelled unverified.
The Zambian Economist will publish confirmed results as they are formally declared and independently checked.
