Most economic reporting in Zambia stops at the announcement. A figure is released, a statement is issued, and the story ends there. The part readers need, what that figure does to a trader’s stock costs, a contractor’s payment cycle or a farmer’s input prices, usually goes unwritten. That is the part we write.
The Zambian Economist is edited and published in Lusaka. We report and analyse the economy, public finance, markets and governance for business owners, investors, public servants, students and anyone who wants to understand the decisions that shape their money.
What we cover
Our reporting is organised into desks. Each one follows a part of the economy over time, so a single story sits inside the wider picture.
How we work
- Every figure has a source and a date. We name the institution behind each number and the period it covers, so readers can check it for themselves.
- Forecasts are labelled as forecasts. When we cite a projection, we say whose it is.
- We analyse policies, not personalities. We report what decisions do to the economy. We do not endorse candidates or predict election results.
- We correct errors in the open. A corrected article carries a dated note recording what changed.
The full approach is set out in our Editorial Standards, and the way we handle mistakes in our Corrections Policy.
Who writes
In-house reporting and analysis appears under The Zambian Economist Analyst byline. Contributed pieces from economists, engineers, researchers and practitioners carry the author’s own name and, where relevant, their professional affiliation. Contributors’ views are their own. We edit every piece for accuracy, clarity and length.
If you know a part of the Zambian economy well and have an argument worth making, we would like to hear from you. Read the guidelines on our Submit an Article page.
Working with us
The publication is funded by commercial placements. Organisations can list in our business directory, promote an event or advertise across the site. None of these buy any say over what we cover or how we cover it. Our media kit sets out audience figures and rates, and you can download it as a PDF.
