The Chongwe-bound carriageway of Great East Road between Levy Mwanawasa and Hybrid roundabouts will be temporarily closed from Monday, 26 October, to Thursday, 12 November 2026, according to a Lusaka City Council public notice.

The council says the closure will facilitate upgrades to the culvert crossing at Mumana and road expansion works.

Alternative routes

Motorists are advised to use Hybrid Road and Lubwe Road in Kaunda Square to bypass the affected section.

The council has urged drivers to follow traffic signs and directions, exercise caution and allow additional travel time when using the alternative routes.

Plan journeys ahead

For commuters and businesses using the affected stretch, the practical step is to factor the diversion into journeys and delivery schedules during the closure period.

The notice concerns the Chongwe-bound carriageway on the specified section of Great East Road. It does not announce a closure of the entire road.

In the notice, signed by Town Clerk Oliver Muuka and bearing an Office of the Town Clerk stamp dated 23 October 2026, the council regrets the inconvenience and thanks the public for its cooperation.
