Update from the Library Development Foundation (LDF)
At the polling stations visited so far in Lusaka, the situation remains calm and peaceful, with turnout moderate in most areas and gradually increasing as voting continues. At NIPA, turnout is moderate but rising, with no long queues observed. The monitoring team has also visited Libala, Chilenje, Kalingalinga and Kunda Square, where Chilenje and Kunda Square show a significant, noticeably higher turnout than elsewhere. The overall atmosphere across the stations visited is sober and tranquil, with no incidents of political violence reported.
LDF – Monitors/Observers Team
Update: NKwanzi and Makeni Oriental Polling Stations
In a further update, the LDF Monitors/Observers Team reported on conditions at two more polling stations, NKwanzi and Makeni Oriental.
At NKwanzi Polling Station, turnout was high in the morning but has since diminished. The atmosphere at the station remains serene and tranquil, and by the time the LDF representative arrived, the earlier queue had already dissipated.
At Makeni Oriental Polling Station, turnout is low, yet the environment there is calm and peaceful, LDF said.
The NKwanzi and Makeni Oriental readings are broadly consistent with what LDF observers have reported elsewhere in Lusaka on election day: a calm, generally low-tension environment with turnout that varies noticeably from one station to the next.
The observations represent conditions witnessed at the polling stations visited by the LDF Monitors/Observers Team and should not be taken as a nationwide assessment of voter turnout or the electoral environment.
