Government expects the final work at National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka to be completed by Friday, 28 August 2026, as preparations continue for the inauguration of President-elect Hakainde Hichilema for a second term.
The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts said officials were satisfied with progress after an inspection led by Deputy Secretary to Cabinet for Administration Dr Oliver Kalabo and ministry Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe on Monday. Hichilema was declared the winner of the 13 August presidential election on 18 August.

Ministry Principal Public Relations Officer Bobby Ng’andu said work was progressing well and that Government expected the facility to be ready once the remaining items were finished.
“By Friday we should know that this facility is ready,” Ng’andu said after the inspection.

Kalabo and Chileshe toured the VIP areas, washrooms, the presidential holding room and sections set aside for the main stage. The inspection was intended to establish whether the rehabilitation and event preparations remained on schedule.
A multi-agency rehabilitation effort
The rehabilitation is being carried out through a joint Government programme involving the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, the Zambia National Service and the Zambia Air Force.
